A simple ‘Go to the dance with me?’ doesn’t cut it anymore: Teens invite dates to school dances in creative, elaborate ways. ”I nearly fainted,” Brooke Drury said about the way Alex Hom invited her to South Pasadena High School’s winter formal, which included a choreographed dance routine. “I can’t believe anyone would do anything that amazing for me.”

Um, so this is my high school.
In my humble opinion, this seems a little excessive. Also, do people actually think in terms of “well this dude asked me to a dance in a flashier way so I’m gonna go with him over the other dudes”?  Then again, the most romantic thing a boy has ever done for me is ask me to Homecoming by nailing scrap pieces of wood into the letters “HC”, dipping them in lighter fluid, tossing them into the communal pool of my apartment building, and setting them on fire. Yes, I did almost get evicted.
A few thought-provoking follow-up questions to this story:
-How is it that the most romantic thing a boy has ever done for me occurred during my junior year of high school with a boy who I never dated who is now a Mormon missionary?
-How did a boy who thought it would be okay to throw lighter fluid into a pool get into Harvard?
-Has it really been over three years since? Really?
-Do high-schoolers do this in other parts of the country?
